Procrastination is the act of delaying or putting off tasks until the last minute, or past a deadline.
We are all guilty of these two types of things, aren’t we?
Do you remember the time you thought you had over a week left to finish a piece of work, but in fact, it was due the next day?
The time that you decided to spring clean the office, but you didn’t feel like doing it, so you put it off and it never got cleaned.
We assume that these things won’t take as long as you think to finish as much as they actually do. This often leads to a sense of false security when we believe that we still have loads of time to complete the tasks.
The main problem that contributes to procrastination is that we must feel inspired or motivated to work on a task at a particular time.
Here are a few reasons we procrastinate.
Not knowing how to do something
Not wanting to do something
Not feeling in the mood to do it
Being in the habit of waiting until the last minute
Believing that you work better under pressure
Thinking that you can finish it at the last minute
Lacking the initiative to get started
Forgetting
Waiting for the right moment
Delaying one task in favour of working on another
Does any of the above resonate with you?
I certainly can relate to some of these. However, it is thought that procrastinators go hand in hand with PERFECTIONISTS. So I will take that ! 🤣
